VIENNA BOYS’ CHOIR

VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. Audiences who heard the performances of the Viennese Boys’ Choir in 1935 will be glad to learn that the visit of the Vienna Mozart Boys’ Choir is now assured for this year. The choir is at present in America, and will arrive in Auckland on April 14 to commence a six weeks’ tour of the Dominion under the direction of D. D. O’Connor. Under the baton of Dr. George Gruber, this choir has won the most favourable opinions from press critics in London, New York, Buenos Aires, and many other musical centres. The conductor, Arturo Toscanini, has declared these boys to be “better than any Viennese Choir that I can remember.” Several'of the boys have sung under Toscanini at the Salzburg Mozart Festival in 1936 and again in 1937. The programme to be given in New Zealand will be similar to those of the previous choir, and will include operettas in costume, motets, songs in English and Viennese folk songs.
