NATIONAL RIFLE MEETING AT TRENTHAM MASEFIELD JUNIOR LEADING BY TWO POINTS. WAIRARAPA COMPETITORS PROMINENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association ) WELLINGTON, This Day. The remaining championship belt matches before the final 10 rounds at 1100 yards were fired at the national rifle meeting at Trentham yesterday, and with the completion of these B. Masefield, of the Nelson-Marlborough Regiment of Mounted Rifles, is leading for the King’s Prize with an aggregate score of 475 out of a possible 500. By his accurate marksmanship over the long ranges he improved on the onepoint lead he had the previous night. Two points behind him are A. R. Symons (Ashhurst), F. Bowes (Auckland City), and his father, W. N. Masefield (Blenheim), each with 473. Fifth place in the King’s Fifty is occupied by. F. J. Jeune (Gisborne) with 472, after which there is a drop of five points to the next highest score. The early morning shooting was watched by Sir Lionel Fletcher, a member of the council of the National. Rifle Association of Great Britain, who spent more than an hour behind the mounds. He has been asked by his council to do what he can to encourage rifle shooting in the British Dominions by discussions with authorities in India, Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the Empire he visits during his present tour. Another visitor to the meeting was Mr G. Hyde, Masterton, who won the belt in 1902 and in 1908. This afternoon’s final for the King's Prize will be attended by the Gover-nor-General, Viscount Galway.
