BRIGHT CONCERT

IN AID OF HEALTH CAMP FUNDS. VARIED PROGRAMME PRESENTED There was a fair attendance in the Opera House on Saturday evening, when the St Andrew’s Burns Club, of Wellington, assisted by local talent, held a concert in aid of funds for the children's health camp. There was plenty of variety in the programme, Scottish dances being featured. Misses Kathleen and Constance Burke contributed a sword dance with skill and grace. Miss Gracie Mac Kay charmed her audience with a most graceful Sean Triubhais. Highland flings were danced by Yvonne Saunders, Kathleen and Constance Burke, G. Mac Kay, Y. Saunders and the Misses Burke gave a spirited display of a Scottish reel and Miss K. Burke danced an Irish J The piping for the dancing was supplied by Pipers Jock MacKenzie and A. Barclay. The piping selections by Miss Gracie Mac Kay, the talented young lady piper, were heartily applauded. The airs played were: “Craig N. Darrock,” “Athole Highlanders,” “Lady Louden,” “Reel o’ Tulloch,” “My Home” and “Road to the Isles.” Vocal solos, duets and other items were rendered during the evening by Mr and Mrs McWhinnie, Miss J. Hogg, Yvonne Foster, Messrs Harold Clark, T. McNair and Flemming. Every item was heartily encored. One of the most pleasing items was that given by Leo Chung, the Chinese singer, who rendered popular songs. Peggy Broughton and her four Maori maidens contributed Maori songs and a slow poi, the items being very well received. Noeline Graham, in her clever dancing acts, was roundly applauded. Mr Ron Shaw was a capable stage manager. Mr J. Robertson, M.P., on behalf of the Otaki Health Camp, thanked all who had helped and also Mr A. E. Miller for arranging such a bright programme.
