BOWLING CLUB COMPETITIONS. CHAMPION OF CHAMPION PAIRS. (“Tiir.es-Age” Special.) • ■ In . the champion of champion pairs contest at Martinborough on Saturday the Featherston Bowling Club’s pair, J. Hyland and G. O’Neale (s) won both their games, defeating Carterton 34-14, and Grey town 32-16. The champion fours for the Featherston Club was won by Kilsby, Ayre, Anderson and Bloxam, who defeated Hyland, James, O’Neale and W. Higgison (s). Bloxam’s rink had two lives and Higgison’s one. In the first game Higgison defeated Bloxam 23-21. This left both teams with one life. In the play off Bloxam won. It was a sensational game. Higgison at the 6th head was 8 to Bloxam’s nil. Bloxam then got two fours and two s’s, and went on to win 25*11, with three heads unplayed. Croquet. The C grade championship of the Haunui Croquet Club was won by Mrs White, who defeated Mrs Davis 26/20. Grass Fire. A fire alarm was given yesterday morning at 10 o’clock when a grass fire had burnt rather close to the residence of Mr P. H. Wilton. The Fire Brigade promptly put out the flames. Road Safety. A lecture and film screening were given to the school 'children yesterday morning, by Mr Stringer, Traffic Inspector to schools. The campaign is being organised by the Transport Department. The children were divided into two groups. Standard 4,5, 6 and secondary children . were taken first and the infants and lower standard second. The pupils of the South Featherston School were also present. Mr Stringer, who has a pleasing personality. and an excellent way of presenting his facts, after showing the film gave a short talk. He then showed parts of the film again and asked for questions from the pupils. Many questions were asked. The children appreciated the address and the headmaster, Mr Hayes, thanked Mr Stringer on behalf of the children.
