Meanwhile, the Slovak separatist tendencies, which Germany is believed to support, retard consolidation of the republic, upon which Herr Hitler insists as a preliminary to guaranteeing the Czecho-Slovak frontiers. The Hlinka Guard, which is regarded as the nucleus of the Slovak army, mishandled Catholic priests and ransacked Jewish shops in the health resort of Pistany today.
