By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright March 6. “Demands made by some Melbourne unions for the payment of fares and travelling time both ways for men engaged for building work in New Zealand may cause a hitch in the engagement of men here. Officials of the union conferred with Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., the New Zealand Government representative, today.. Mr Hodgens will interview applicants tomorrow. The “Melbourne Herald” tonight published a letter from Wellington signed “Ex-Melbournian,” warning tradesmen against the living costs in New Zealand, stating that the rent of a four-roomed old wooden house was at least £3 a week.
