CHAMPIONSHIP BELT SERIES - MASEFIELD JUNIOR LEADS AT TRENTHAM. NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Firing over the short ranges in the series of matches for the championship belt was fcompleted at the national rifle meeting at Trentham yesterday. When shooting ceased for the day B. Masefield, of the Nelson-Marlborough Regiment of Mounted Rifles, was leading for the King’s Prize with an aggregate score of 288 out of a possible 300. He is 18 years of age and a son of Captain W. N. Masefield, who has won the King’s Prize three times. This.is the second national meeting he has attended. His first was as a college student two years ago. * One point behind Masefield is F. Bowes, of the Auckland City Rifle Club, and winner of the belt in 1935. Five marksmen—A. R. Symons (Ashhurst), G. G. Kelly (Karori), H. Harries (Christchurch), I. J. Spry (Auckland City) and D. G. Wyllie (West Taieri)—have the next best scores, each with 286. Marksmen will move back to the long ranges today for the last three matches in the series before the final match for the King’s Prize.
