4 MASTERTON CLUB’S UNBEATEN RECORD WIN AGAINST CARTERTON. GAWITH SHIELD COMPETITION. The Masterton Lawn Tennis Club maintained its unbeaten record in the Gawith Shield competition on Saturday when it defeated the Carterton Club by 14 matches and 187 games to 10 matches and 178 games. The following are the results, Masterton players mentioned first in every case:— Men’s singles: Hawksworth beat Keedwell, 6/2, 6/1; McPherson beat Hobson, 6/2, 6/3; Major lost to Worsfold, 0/6, 4/6; Faulknor lost to Dyer, 2/6, 5/6; Payton lost to. Dwane, 5/6, 4/6; Ward lost to Taverner, 1/6, 3/6. - Ladies’ singles: Miss Milne beat Mrs Worsfold, 9/7; Mrs Hawksworth beat Miss Newbold, 9/8; Mrs Ward beat Miss Smart, 9/3; Miss Betts lost to Miss Peters by default; Miss L. Beetham beat Miss Dwane, 9/6; Miss N. Beetham lost to Miss Goodall, 5/9.
