WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION’S COMPETITIONS i LANSDOWNE WIN SENIOR GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP. VICTORY ON FIRST INNINGS. Lansdowne, by defeating Red Star by 52. runs in the first innings scored a live-point win on Saturday and won the Wairarapa Cricket Association’s senior grade championship. The match was played on the Park Oval. At the close of play the previous Saturday, Lansdowne had made 126 in their first innings and Red Star had lost 7 wickets for 62. The not out batsmen, G. Peterson and F. Hoar, who had 3 each, were soon dismissed for 10 and 7 respectively, and the last two men in only collected two between them, the innings closing for 75. Bowling for Lansdowne A. Whiteman took four wickets for 14, D. Groves 2 for 27 and V. Greer 2 for 5. while O’Callaghan and S. Jenkins took one apiece. Lansdowne, in their second innings made 170, 22 of which was per medium of extras. R. Clarke and R. O’Callaghan 40 and 56 respectively made useful totals, others to reach double figures being Greer 17, A. Whiteman 13 and McCalmont 10. N. Hoar, bowling for Red Star, took five wickets for 28 runs, and F. Henson captured two for 12. O’Kane and Bell took one each. Red Star fared badly in their second strike, 7 wickets being down for 78 when stumps were drawn. Bell 22, Henson 20, Lambourne 12 and G. Peterson 14 were responsible for most of that total. COLLEGE BEAT OLD BOYS. Wairarapa College, in a match played on the College ground, defeated Old Boys by an innings and 30 runs. At the conclusion of play the previous Saturday College, in their first innings, had made 222 and Old Boys 71. Continuing the match on Saturday, Old Boys, in their second innings, were dismissed for 121, Hatton 53 and Brash 23 being the only ones to make a stand. Old Boys, in their second innings, made 275 runs in 65 minutes, and lost only five wickets. Curtis hit ten sixes, three in succession, and seven fours, to score a century in 25 minutes. J. Wilson was 16 minutes at the wickets in scoring his 74 not out, which included 12 fours and three sixes. Martinborough made 112 (Munn 25, Hamilton 22, Murphy 15. Flynn 14). Bowling for Old Boys, Ryan took four for 17. Corbishley two for 8, Merrick two for 16, and Sortain-Smith one for 9. Old Boys made 151 in their first innings (Kemnitz 40, Merrick 31, Sortain-Smith 22). Hancox, for Martinborough, took four for 52. In their second innings, Old Boys made 275 for five wickets (Curtis 103 retired, Wilson 74 retired, Ryan 38 retired, Corbishley 35). Bowling for Martinborough, Hamilton, two for 34. and Hancox two for 80, had the best averages. College juniors lost to Oddfellows by four runs. Top scorer for College was Parsonson, 53. Shearer scored 39, Scholfield 25. Hanley 29 and Welch 17. Mooney took 4 wickets for 75, McGill 3 for 49, Smith 2 for 7 and Reid 1 for 18. Mooney hit up a solid 82 for Oddfellows, Groube 58, Reid 21 and McGill 14 Parsonson took 4 wickets. The College total was 195, as against their oppon-

ents’ eight wickets for 199. Carterton defeated St. Patrick’s Old Boys by 58 runs. St. Patrick’s made 101 in their first innings (Donnelly 53, Howard not out 19). Bowling for Carterton, Berry took 5 wickets for 31 runs; Byers 2 for 33 and Steffert 2 for 20. Carterton replied with 159 (Byers 137 Ward 13, Berry 27, Fisher 36, Thompson 33 and Loader 13). Cross, for St. Patrick’s, took 6 wickets for 63 and Brice 4 for 27.
