Mention of gas masks for the civil population in New Zealand was made by the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis, at a conference called to consider a provisional plan for an air raid precautions and emergency organisation for the metropolitan area. He said he had been told it would be possible to manufacture in New Zealand all the gas masks that would be required.
