PARACHUTE JUMP
WORLD RECORD CLAIMED. DESCENT OF 31,000 FEET. (Independent Cable Service.) CHICAGO, March 3. A world’s record parachute jump is believed to have been established by William Jones, a negro parachutist, who stepped out of an aeroplane at an altitude of 31.000 feet and delayed opening the chute till within 1000 feet of the ground. The pilot of the plane said the ceiling temperature was 60 deg. below zero.
