When members of the Legislative Assembly complained that £1,850,000 was to be spent on repairs to the Burrinjuck .Dam without a public inquiry, the Minister of Transport, LieUt.-Col. M. F. Bruxner, said the matter was urgent because not only the livelihoods but the lives of many people were at stake. The water impounded in the dam was said to be equal to that in Sydney Harbour and one could hardly imagine what would happen if such a vast volume of water was suddenly released.
