TROUBLE AT TIENTSIN
INCREASING PRESSURE ON CONCESSIONS. JAPANESE ISOLATION PLANS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, March 1. “The Times”- Shanghai correspondent says the Japanese are exerting increased pressure on the British and French Concessions in Tientsin and it is feared they will force an issue soon. In addition to the erection of barricades, a road has been built around the concessions and the Japanese have begun their own bridge across the river. Thus they will be able to isolate the concessions at a moment’s notice. ■ It is reliably stated that orders have been drawn up for the final evacuation of the remaining Japanese.
CANTON RIVER SHIPPING. ARRANGEMENT FOR PARTIAL RESUMPTION. (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) i HONG KONG, March 1. The Japanese have permitted the partial resumption of Canton River shipping. In return for Britain allowing one Japanese transport to visit Hong Kong weekly, one British ship is allowed to visit Canton fortnightly.
