HUTT ROAD SMASH

TWO WOMEN FATALLY INJURED TWO MEN IN HOSPITAL. SMALL TRUCK OVERTURNS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Two women were fatally injured and two young men seriously injured in a smash on the Hutt Road, about a mile south of the Petone crossing, at about 2.40 this morning. Owing to the fact that all the persons involved in the smash were either killed or seriously injured, their identity was in doubt for some time, and extensive inquiries were made by the police before their names became known. They are believed to be:— Killed. Audrey Wright, address not yet known. Mavis Eleanor Sixsmith, aged 18, waitress, 90 Elizabeth Street. Injured. J. Kennedy, traveller, Post Office Hotel, head injuries and concussion. Alfred Hollis, mail sorter, G.P.0., head injuries. Apparently the small truck in which the party was travelling overturned. Kennedy was taken to hospital by a private car, and the others were removed by the free ambulance. Miss Wright was dead before reaching hospital Sixsmith died soon after admission. AN EARLIER VICTIM. VERDICT AT INQUEST. WELLINGTON, This Day. An inquest on Phillip Cummins, who was struck down on the Hutt Road after alighting from a bus, resulted in a verdict of death from head injuries through being knocked down by a car driven by Edward Valentine Schranka.
