Indicating the value to domestic trade of the requirements of the large railway companies, the Canadian National Railway, which operates 24,000. miles of tracks in the Dominion, purchased goods to the value of 51,000,000 dollars during 1938. Of this total 11,100,000 dollars was expended on new equipment and 10,000,000 dollars on fuel from Canadian mines.
