SUPPLEMENTARY SHEEP FAIR

’ ASSOCIATED AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. Q . The Wairarapa Live Stock Auction- ( eering Association report having held their Supplementary Sheep Fair at the Masterton Yards yesterday, when a yarding of some 2,000 wethers and r store lambs, and 13,000 breeding ewes was offered to a large bench of buyers . from local districts. Buyers were also ’’ present from the Manawatu and Wan- , ganui. The sale commenced on the store s wethers, and while prices were rather lower than anticipated, the vendors 3 met the position. A good line of 600 odd 2-th wethers on account of Mr M. D. McGregor realised 15s 9d while ’ a similar line sold on account of Mr R. B. Madden also made 15s 9d. Other store wethers according to quality and _ size made from 14s Id to 15s 7d. Only a short yarding of fat wethers came , forward and these made up to 18s. Store conditioned w.f.'wether lambs j sold up to 13s 4d and similar sorts from 9s, 10s and, up to 11s, while medium w.f. ewe lambs realised from 12s .’ 6d to 14s. Forward condition sappy b.f. lambs 12s 9d up to 14s 7d; cull

. lambs 5s 6d to 6s. In the breeding ewe section, apart from four or five attractive lines of station-bred annual drafts the quality was not up to that of the main fair held a week ago, and in consequence prices were considerably lower. While we are able to report practically a total clearance under the hammer, bidding j on the main lines was at time quite 5 spirited. Generally speaking, however, the sale was inclined to drag, and at 3 times bidding was very lifeless. The top price of the day was obtain--5 ed for a line of attractive 5-yr old ewes 1 sold on account of “Te Parae” at 19s. This was closely followed by an excep--1 tionally nice line' on account of Mr Edgar Nitz which realised 18s, and a ■ similar line account Mr H. J. Nit? • changing hands at 17s. Summerhill ’ 5-yr old ewes realised 16s lOd, and a j similar line on account of Mr H. Ban- ; nister 16s 3d. A line of well-woolled j 5-yr old ewes, being the annual draft j from Sulphur Wells, changed hands at • 17s, and the Kourarau 5-yr old ewes j also made 15s 6d, E. W., Cheetham’s 5-yr old ewes 16s 6d, J. Tarbet’s 14s, • and J. Campbell, junr., 15s 3d. In the 4-yr old ewe section a line of- . fered on account of J. A. Toogood real- . ised 18s, and a line on account of John . Morrison, Blairlogie, topped the mari ket in this section at 19s. Other 5-yr old ewes, according to condition and mouths, made from 13s to 15s, and from ’ 10s to 13s 6d. 6-yr old ewes made from 9s 6d up to Ils and 12s, according . to quality and condition. Competition in the young ewes was again keen, but the quality was certainly not up to the standard of the previous week. The top price of the day was obtained by Mr M. D. Me-' Gregor’s line which realised 295. This price was also obtained for a wellgrown and conditioned line on account of Mr Roy Donald, and the heavy-skin-ned sheep from this Station realised 265. The main sales in the 2-th section were as follows: A/c Hartley Myers, 24s 6d; a/c J. C. Judd, 20s 6d; a/c “Tc Parae”, 235; a/c J. M. James, 22s 9d; a/c Collin Deans, 245; a/c “Patakawa”, 225; a/c “Tyneside”, 20s 6d; a/c Roy Donald, 21s 6d; 4-yr ewes sold account J. A.
