MASTERTON CLUB GAMES. CHAMPION PAIRS CONTEST. (Notes by “The Bowler.”) The semi-final of the champion pairs was played last evening, the results being:—Stubbings and Finlayson (s) beat McCullough and Perry Is), and Thurston and Taylor (s) beat Hughes and Nielsen (s). In the match, Finlayson (s) v Perry (s), the former pair assumed an early lead. On the 6th head the scores were — Finlayson 11, Perry 4, and on the 10th head Finlayson had a lead of 8 points. The scores on the 14th head were Finlayson 21, Perry 10, and oh the final head the board showed Finlayson 25, Perry 12. The match between Taylor (s) and Nielsen (s) was an interesting one. and the game was not decided until the 21st head had been played. Nielsen obtained an early lead, the scores on the 4th head being Nielsen 8, Taylor 2, but on the 9th head Taylor assumed the lead, the scoreboard reading Taylor 12, Nielsoh 10. For the next 5 heads Taylor retained his lead, the scores on the 14th head being Taylor 17, Nielson 11, but on the next 4 heads Nielson ptit on 9 points, and thus had a lead of 3 points. On the 19th head Taylor scored a single, making him 18 to Nielson’s 20. Taylor scored 3 points on the 20th head, thus giving him a lead of 1 point, with one head to play. On the last and deciding head Taylor scored 2, making the final scores Taylor (s) 22, Nielson (s) 20. Both the pairs gave a good exhibition of bowling, and the last two heads were most exciting and the large number of onlookers enjoyed the close finish. Thurston and Taylor now meet Stubbings and Finlayson, but as Taylor still has two lives, Finlayson must beat him twice to win the Masterton Club’s champion pairs. MUTRIE CUP. , A challenge match was played yesterday afternoon between D. Thomson and E. Reid (s) of the Masterton Club, the holders of the Mutrie Cup, and W. Brady and Southey (s), of the Park Club, the challengers. The holders retained the cup. The Park pair obtained ah early lead, the scores on the sth head being Park 10, Master ton 1. At the 11th head Masterton had obtained the lead, the scores being Masterton 14, Park 12, but at the 15th head the scores were equal—l 7 all. On the following heads Masterton put on 10 points, while the Park scored 1 point, the final figures reading— Masterton 27, Park 18.
