RAILCARS IN FRANCE
NINETY THOUSAND MILES COVERED DAILY. Railcars of France cover 90,000 miler a day, representing 23 per cent of the daily distance covered by passenger traffic. France possesses 669 railcars, and a further 145 will be put in service early in the New Year, giving France firs' place in Europe for this new light passenger train traffic. The horsepower of these trains rarely exceeds 300. but the new railcar trains will be between 300 and 600 h.p. However, the fastest of the railcars in France have a horse power of 800 (4 motors of 200 h.p. each) and attain a practical average speed of 87 miles an hour, with a top speed of 119 miles gn hour. ,
