The Arabs held demonstrations of rejoicing at the imminence of an independent Arab State in the streets of Haifa, Jaffa* Nazareth and Tulkaram. The Jewish Council has issued a statement declaring that the reported proposal to replace the Palestine Mandate by an independent Arab State would undermine the Jewish national home. The statement added that the Jews would oppose the attempt to impose a minority status upon them. Troops arrested forty-one Arabs and seized a quantity of firearms.

PROPOSALS REJECTED. JEWISH AGENCY DECISION. (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, February 26. The executive of the Jewish Agency rejected the Government’s proposals for Palestine. It will report to a full conference tomorrow, through Dr Weizmann.
