“In. Egypt our relations with the Italians were never strained,” said Squad-ron-Leader L. Jarman, who has returned to Christchurch on leave after 10 years with the Royal Air Force. He was in Egypt at the time of the Abyssinian war. “But they were keen to show their patriotism, and everywhere their motor-cars were be-flagged. The impression among them was that if there was any world war, Italy could never have lost, they were so elated.” Most of the Italians, and there were many, were prosperous business people owning large, properties, said Squad-ron-Leader Jarman.
