A Government spokesman said Poland was not aiming at closer friendship with the Rome-Berlin axis, but only with Italy. “Poland,” he said, “is remaining aloof from any axis, but, wishes to, maintain good relations with individuals. Linked with either axis Poland loses a valuable position as holder of the balance of power. The position preserved during Herr von Ribbentrop’s visit will be continued during Count Ciano’s visit.
