IDLE AND DISORDERLY

OLD OFFENDER BEFORE COURT. ASKS FOR THREE MONTHS. When Henry Wiles was packing his swag along Mt Bruce Road last night, a motor-car stopped alongside of him. Wiles was not loath to accept a lift with the result that he finished up in the Masterton Police station and this morning appeared in the Magistrates Court charged with being an idle and disorderly person with no visible means of support. Senior-Sergeant G. A. Doggett described Wiles as an old offender and told the presiding Justices of the Peace, Messrs A. D. Low and H. E. Pither, that complaints had been received that Wiles had been begging at houses in the Mt Bruce district. When Wiles refused to give evidence regarding his mode of livelihood, Mr Low pointed out that he was liable for one or two months’ imprisonment. “Can you make it three months. Sir?” asked Wiles. His request, was immediately granted and for the next three months he will be an inmate of Wellington Prison.
