The Hon. F. Jones, Postmaster-Gen-eral, who is at present in Dunedin, will return to Wellington next week. Mr. R. Cowie, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, Wellington, and formerly of Masterton, has been transferred ’to Huntly as accountant. He will take up his duties there on March 6. Mr Graeme Morice, Chapel Street, who completed the medical intermediate at Victoria University College last year, has left for Dunedin to continue with his medical course. Mr H. F. Deverell of Masterton has been elected an honorary member of the New Zealand Institute of Opticians in recognition of his work during the early days of the organisation. The death is announced in a cablegram from Sydney of Mr John Lane Mullins, a former M.P., and a prominent figure in art and Roman Catholic Church circles and the city’s public life. He was aged 82. Mr H. L. Cranswick, the new business supervisor for the A.M.P. Society in Australia and Mr H. S. Beaumont, the newly appointed new business supervisor for New Zealand, who have been visiting Masterton, have returned to Wellington. Constable J. J. Harvey, orderly of the Supreme Court, Wellington, retired yesterday after 40 years’ service with the Police Department. On behalf of the Court staff, the registrar, Mr W. W. Samson made a presentation to Constable Harvey. In view of the death of Lord Brabourne, a British official wireless message states, the King has approved the appointment of Sir Robert Neil Reid as Governor of Bengal and of Mr Henry Joseph Tynam as Governor of Assam in the absence of .Sir Robert. Archbishop T. O’Shea, Wellington, was, according to latest advices, to leave Europe for the United States about the end of March. Since then, however, his Holiness the Popo has died, and it is assumed that his Grace will have proceeded to Rome, where he would probably’remain till after the coronation of the new Pope.
