COLLEGE CARNIVAL

NEXT SATURDAY’S ATTRACTION. SOME NEW AND NOVEL FEATURES A carnival will be held by the Wairarapa College on the College grounds next Saturday, March 4. This year's carnival promises to eclipse any previous effort attempted on these beautiful grounds. At 10 a.m. a monster procession under the direction of Mr G. C. L. Dickel will leave the College to parade the main streets. At 1.30 p.m. a pony walking race will start from the Steam Laundry under the direction of Mr T. V. Caverhill, a slow cycle race will start from Knox Church directed by Inspectors J. McGregor and Milne, and a wheelbarrow race from the Kuripuni Triangle in charge of Mr C. Williams and staff. The grounds will be packed with sideshows and stalls, and every taste will be catered for. Many will be delighted with the short sharp bouts of boxing and wrestling by the boys. Acrobatic turns by a super contortionist accompanied by his clown, a performing pony, a ventriloquist, roll downs, clock golf, topsy turvy, darts, wonkey saw, lawnmower race, treacle bun, morning wood cutting, and hair cutting competitions combine to make the occasion a notable one. The artistic side offers many attractions with folk dancing, skipping, and a clever entertainment party under the direction of Miss O. R. Sutherland staging an attractive tabloid review, “Ten Pretty Girls,” and a humorous sketch, “The Old Woman Shows Her Muddles,” will be greatly enjoyed. The brass, pipe, and accordion bands, besides the many other attractions will make an afternoon’s enjoyment long to be remembered. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the Prime Minister (Mr Savage), Mr J. Robertson, M.P., will open the carnival at 2 p.m. The charge for admission will be 6d for adults; children under 12 free.
