The sailor had come home in a tiny West Country village. In the main street one day an old lady stopped him. “You be Jack’s boy Sam, bain’t you?” she asked. “I am,” said the sailor cheerfully. “And you be in the Navy, bain’t you?” “That’s so, mother,” said the sailor. “Ah, I've got a grandson there, too. Do you knovz him?” “I might,” replied the other. “What ship’s he in?” “Why, I never did!” cried the lady, “There bain’t two of ’em, be there?"
