In view of a possible bomb outrage, admission to Mr Chamberlain's meeting al Blackburn was strictly by ticket. The police asked some women to open their handbags and barriers kept those who were not admitted at a distance of twenty yards from the hall. Eight ’ thousand people heard the speech. They cheered Mr Chamberlain at his entry for several minutes and sang “For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow.”
