BELBOWRIE WRECK
FINDING OF MARINE COURT IN SYDNEY. NO NEGLIGENCE ATTRIBUTED TO ANYONE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, February 22. The Marine Court today recorded the following finding: "We are unable | to state with any confidence the cause i leading up to the wreck of the coastal I steamer Belbowrie off Maroubra on I the night of January 16. Therefore no negligence can be attributed to anyone aboard.” A wireless report was received in Sydney on January 17 from the master of the Belbowrie that she had run on a reef off Maroubra Point, and urgently required help. The pilot vessel, Captain Cook, immediately went to the scene, which is about four miles south of the heads, and the crew were rescued by making their way hand over hand along a rope through 60 feet of boiling surf to the shore. Finally the Belbowrie, a wooden vessel of 218 tons, broke in two and became a total loss.
