MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL. ' WAIRARAPA COLLEGE CARNIVAL. The Mayor. Mr T. .Jordan, presided at ; the monthly meeting of the Masterton | Borough Council, hold last night. I Others present were: Councillors TrevI or Beetham. G. W. Morice, J. Ninnes. A. T. Jackson. H. E. Gardner. R. RusI sell. G. D. Wilson. W. Kemp. W. H. Judd, A. D. Low and W. White. A letter was received from the Wairarapa College Parents’ Association applying for permission to use the streets on the occasion of the college carnival on March 4 for a wheel-barrow race, a pony parade, a slow bicycle race and a procession It was decided to offer no objection to the college organising a procession, and hanging a streamer across Queen Street, advertising the carnival, but that permission could not be granted to use the streets for the other events applied for. The Masterton Primary Schools were given ’ permission to use the Dixon Street Baths for their swimming sports on February 28. The Sedgley Boys' Home was granted the free use of the men’s baths on two night a week on the usual conditions. The Deputy-Superintendent of the National Superannuation Fund wrote drawing the attention of the council to the Government’s Superannuation Fund for Local Bodies. It was decided that the council was not prepared to go into a superannuation scheme which was partial in its application. A lengthy report was submitted by the Borough Inspector, Mr T. A. Russell, on the business transacted at the annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the Royal Sanitary Institute, held at Christchurch. Mr Russell was thanked for his comprehensive report. The action of the chairman of the Park Committee in granting the InterHouse committee the use of the Park on March 11 on the usual terms and conditions was confirmed. The Nursing Division, St John Ambulance, wrote thanking the council for granting it the free use of the halls for its meetings. The council decided to again grant the division the free use of a room for the ensuing year. The council decided to make application for exemption from the list of parties cited in the industrial dispute between the New Zealand Federated Association of Workers .and others. The Primary Schools Association was granted the use of the Park Oval on February 23 and 24 .for the annual sports gathering. The Beautifying Society was given permission to usd the Municipal Hall free of charge from March 13 to 18 on the occasion of its carnival week. The society was also granted the use of the Park on March 16, and it was decided .to leave the . coloured lights in the streets during the carnival. An application for the hire of the Municipal Hall for skating at the rate of £lO a week for 6 weeks was refused. . . . A.sub-committee consisting of Councillors White, Ninnes and Kemp was set up to make arrangements for the visit to Masterton on March 8 of Lord Nuffield.
