Mr Noel Wood, a young Adelaide artist, who has lived alone for three years on tiny Bedarra Island, near the Barrier Reef. “I abhor crowds, noise, clothes, and everything that spells civilisation," he said. Mr Wood arrived at the island, of which he is part owner, with provisions to last two months, an axe. a saw and six fowls. When the food was exhausted he turned to coconuts, pineapples, bananas, papaws, oysters and fish. His hair grew so long that he had to tie it up with string.
