STATE THEATRE
"LITTLE MISS BROADWAY." Shirley Temple in “Little Miss Broadway.’’ will appear finally tonight at the State Theatre. “LAWLESS VALLEY.” Blazing six-shooters, thundering hooves, a damsel in distress and a twofisted westerner bent on revenge sums up briefly George O’Brien’s newest RKO Radio outdoor drama, “Lawless Valley,” which will open at the State Theatre on Wednesday. The story centres on the stormy experiences of O’Brien as a victimised young homesteader whose property is coveted by a rival rancher and his son. In order to gain it, the ruthless pair murder O’Brien’s father and contrive to have the young man sent to prison for robbing a stage-coach of 50,000 dollars, a crime they commit themselves. Released finally on parole, O’Brien returns to the scene with revenge in his heart, just in time to learn that his sweetheart. played by Kay Sutton, is being forced into marriage with the rival rancher’s son. His enemies learn of his arrival and plan ways to return him to the penitentiary for violating his parole. Fred Kohler Senr., and Fred Kohler Junr., are well cast as the rival rancher and his son, while other capable players who earn recognition are Walter Miller, George MacQuarrie, Lew Kelly and Earle Hodgins. The other feature is “Sharpshooters.” Brian Donlevy and Wally Vernon are idealy cast as the two devil-may-care newsreel photographers, who risk their necks for the thrill of it. They’re ready at a moment’s notice to take their lives in their hands —or maybe a girl in their arms. Lynn Bari is featured in the leading feminine role as the girl who figures prominently in the excitement which involves Brian and Wally. Other members of the strong cast are John King, Douglas Dumbrille, C. Henry Gordon and Sidney Blackmer. The adventures of “The Camera Daredevils” are woven into a story that embodies all the esential elements of fast action, suspense, comedy and romance.
