TAREE DISQUALIFIED

YACHTING SENSATION. CHAMPIONSHIP TO AUCKLAND EOAT. 'By Telegraph—Press Association ) AUCKLAND, February 19. A sensation was caused in yachting circles by the announcement late tonight, as the result of the consideration of protests relating to the third race of the series for the world eight-een-foot sailing championship on Saturday afternoon, that the winner Taree of Sydney had been disqualified, the championship and trophy to go to Mann, Auckland. Mann was the winner of the firs' race, was fifth in the second race and third in the last race. The protest on which Taree was disqualified was entered by the Auckland boat Limerick., which alleged that Taree committee -a breach of the rule requiring the boat on the port tack to give way to the boat on the starboard tack. It was alleged that the incident occurred at the start of the last race. The committee appointed by Ihe sailing committee, which composed both Australian and New Zealand offiicials spent most of the day considering this and other protests relating to the second race. All of the latter, however, were dismissed. E. Swinbourne, the skipper of Taree. has the right to appeal to the Yacht Racing Association of Britain against the disqualification, but no decision has yet been reached.
