Suez Canal traffic for 1938 was: — Britain, 17,358.000 tons; Italy, 4,626.000 tons; Germany, 3,135,000 tons; Holland, 3,028,000 tons; France, 1,748,000 tons—a total of 34,418,000 tons, showing a drop of 2,073,000 tons. Italian traffic decreased by one-fifth.
