The usefulness of water in gardening and not in fire-fighting was uppermost in the mind of at least one member of the Christchurch Fire Board when a report on the performance of the board’s newest fire engine was being presented. The chairman (Mr T. M. Charters) said that highly satisfactory trials had been conducted in the Botanic Gardens. “I wish all that water had gone on to my garden,” remarked Mr K. W. Robinson.. Other members of the board agreed that just now no gardener could see so much water being shot from hoses without thinking of the needs of his own garden.
