COMING CARNIVAL
BEAUTIFYING SUCI ETY—Y.M.C.A. EFFORT. PRESENTATION OF MODERN REVUE. A feature of the carnival to be held by the Masterton Beautifying Society and the Y.M.C.A. in March will be the presentation of an up-to-date revue, to be known as “The Debutantes Revue.” for which a large and enthusiastic company started rehearsals early in January. It is confidently expected that the revue will be one of the brightest and most spectacular productions ever attempted in this town and rivalling any professional entertainment shown here. It is to run for a season of four nights at the Opera House on March 11, 13, 14 and 15. The music ranges from the classical school to modern popular melodies, there are many humorous sketches, the ballets and dance solos are particularly attractive, many instrumental and specialty items are included, and the scenery and frocking, together with lighting effects, will in themselves be a feature of the show, the whole going to make a really good variety performance which will appeal to all tastes. The production will be run at top speed with no time for encores or waits of any description. The company is fortunate in securing the voluntary services of Mr T. J. Kirk-Burnnand as musical director. Mr Kirk-Burnnand is well known to New Zealand radio listeners as musical supervisor for New Zealand □f the National Broadcasting Service, his own “K-B Music” being often heard over the air. He was conductor of the Kaikorai Band (A Grade) Dunedin when it won the New Zealand Championship, late conductor of the Dunedin Grand Opera Society, late conductor of the Dunedin Operatic Society, pianist of the Royal Dunedin Male Choir, conductor of the Otago University revues, an occasional musical critic of several papers, and an associate of the Auckland University College School of Music. He is also a composer of note. Mr Kirk-Burnnand is impressed with the enthusiasm and progress made at rehearsals by “The Debutantes' Revue” company.
