FEATHERSTON
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. MEETING AT KAHUTARA. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Kahutara branch of the Women’s Institute was held in the Kahutara Hall when Mrs McKenna presided over a good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Buick, Bentley and Jacquiries. It was decided to hold the following competitions at the next meeting:— Best programme, best bloom. The winners of the competitions were:—Best decorated treacle tin, Mrs Welsh, 1; Mrs Pope. 2. Best bloom, Mrs Dufi’ey, 1; Mrs McKenna, 2. Junior members: Best covered coat hanger, P. Nikolaison, 1; J. Hood, 2. The tea hostesses were Mesdames Harvey, D. Wilson, Welsh and M. Wilson. Mr C. C. Kenward, secretary of the School Committee, has received word from Mr p. Roberts, M.P., that the Education Department has agreed to make a grant for the erection of a new school in Featherston. The new building will be of the sunny open air type, and will consist of 10 class rooms, housing all the children from the primers to standard V. District High School pupils will be housed in the present building. Personal Items. Miss Sanders, Wellington, is visiting Mrs Corlet, Pahautea. The death occurred in Wellington of Mrs W. Colliris, a former resident of Featherston, who was living with a son. Mrs Collins was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Bennett, Underhill Road, pioneer settlers of Featherston. The funeral will take place at Featherston today. ■ Mrs W. H. Hodder is spending a holiday in Wellington, and is staying with her sister, Miss Lancaster.
