WAIRARAPA COLLEGE
PARENTS ASSOCIATION. CARNIVAL ARRANGEMENTS. At a meeting of the committee of the Wairarapa College Parents Association, final arrangements were made for their annual carnival to be held in the College grounds on the afternoon of Saturday, March 4. The object of this carnival is to raise funds for ground and building improvements which are outside the responsibility of of the Government. Owing to the amalgamation of the High School and Technical High School, there is a considerable amount of work to be done for which the Government will not make grants, and it is chiefly for this reason that funds are being raised. Parents will have the opportunity of inspecting the new buildings, and additional grounds, that have recently been acquired. The carnival will be commenced with a procession tnrough the streets under the direction of Mr G. C. L. Dickel, and prior to the opening on the College grounds three races will be run from different points of the town, a pony walking race from the Steam Laundry, a slow cycle race from Knox Church, and a wheelbarrow race from Kuripuni triangle, all terminating at the College grounds at approximately 1.45 p.m. Good cash prizes will bo given for these events. The pony race will be in charge of Mr T. V. Caverhill, and his stewards; the slow cycle race in charge of Mr J. McGregor, and Mr W. G. Milne, traffic inspectors, and the wheelbarrow race will be under the supervision of Mr C. J. Williams, this part of the programme will, of course, be subject to the permission of the Borough Council.
The College grounds in the afternoon will be literally packed with side shows of all descriptions, including a number of new and novel events such as "Topsy Turvy,” hair cutting competition, morning wood cutting competition. lawn mower race, treacle bun eating competition, and "wankey saw test. Special attention is being given to the afternoon tea arrangements and soft drinks and ice cream stalls will be on the grounds. Another feature will be pony rides for young children. The carnival will terminate with a dance in the College Assembly Hall in the evening.
