SECONDARY EDUCATION

COLLEGE BOARD OF GOVERNORS. CADETS HOLD BARRACKS. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors was held last night. There were present: Messrs W. R. Nicol (chairman), F. C. Daniell, A. Donald. W. H. Saunders, P. M. Smith. L. J. Taylor. E. J. Wright and Mrs C. C. Jackson. Apologies for absence were received from Mr W. H. Jackson and the secretary, Mr H. M. Boddington. The Principal and staff wore congralulaled on the excellence of the ex-J amination results. Major G. G. f'lancox. E.D., Captains C. J. Williams and R. J. Fisher were given permission lo attend the annual camps of their respective regiments Wellington-West Coast. Hawke’s Bay and t-lauraki. It was reported that the cadets were in barracks this week under the command of Major J. W. Bird, assisted by a good team of officers who were masters of the college. The boys had been very keen and had shown a high standard of efficiency. A visitor to the barracks was Captain G. M. McCaskill, adjutant of the Hawke’s Bay Regiment. The cadet corps, headed by the Pipe Band are to participate in the Fitness Parade tomorrow. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to Mr Murray Wing who earne first in the Dominion in the Chamber of Commerce examination in bookkeeping. The Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, reported the roll to be 521. a little higher than the roll number on March 1 last year. Details were:—Boys, returned, 164; transferred from other schools. 4; re-admitted. 1; beginners, 111; girls, returned, 141: transferred. 10; beginners, 90. Letters of thanks for donations are I to be sent to Mr Waller Nops, for three | miniature engraved silver cups, to be presented one a year for three years to the winner of the Nops Cup. whichj is awarded to the boys’ swimming | champion; to Mrs R. Cooper (nee Miss| J. Scott) for a book for Die library and j to Mr C. E. Schofield. 1
