The Governor-General, Lord Galway, arrived at Hastings by car yesterday morning en route to Wairoa, to attend a Masonic Lodge gathering. Lord Galway and members of his party were guests of Mr and Mrs E. J. Herrick, Pakowhai Road, Hastings, for lunch, and continued the journey to Wairoa later in the afternoon. There' is a possibility of his Excellency visiting Lake Waikaremoana before going to Auckland at the weekend. Mr F. A. Romayne has been appointed a member of the Taranaki Land Board. Dr Julius Stone, who has been appointed to the chair of law at Auckland University College, is expected to arrive at Auckland by the Rangitata from London on March 9. Professor Stone will take up his duties on March 13. The Rt Rev Monsignor C. J. Morkane arrived at Wellington yesterday from Christchurch to join the Wanganella for Sydney. There he will connect with the Orcades for London. He will return to New Zealand by way of the United States. From 14 applicants, including a number resident overseas, Mr Richard Horton Toy, a graduate of the School of Architecture, Auckland University College, has been appointed lecturer and studio instructor in architecture at the school. Mr M. J. Herrick, a son of Mr E. J. Herrick, Hastings, will leave New Zealand for England on March 9 to undergo long term training with the Royal Air Force ,in Cranwell. His entry into the Air Force will establish a record probably unique in New Zealand, for Mr and Mrs Herrick will then have four sons and a son-in-law all serving in the Royal Forces. At yesterday's meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, Mr Keenan, the board’s engineer, stated that one of the board's employees, Mr J. Gardiner, of Masterton, had been admitted as an associate member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of London. The matter was also referred to by the chairman, and it was decided to forward a letter of congratulations to Mr Gardiner.
