DANGER PASSES
BUSH FIRES SUBSIDE IN VICTORIA COOL CHANGE BRINGS RELIEF. ORIGIN OF EARLIER- OUTBREAK. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. MELBOURNE. February 14. The cool change which has been expected for the last, two days has brought to an end the bush fire danger for the present. Though 40 houses were endangered in various places yesterday, only four wore destroyed, the change of wind sweeping the fires back into the burnt-out country. Fire-fighters are still standing by in case of emergencies. An open finding was recorded by the coroner today at the inquests on the eight victims of the Toolangi fire last month. The coroner said that he was unable to say with certainty how the fire began, but he inclined to agree with the forest officers that the fire was deliberately lighted. The total bush fire relief fund is now reaching the £200.000 mark but claims have been lodged amounting to £1.000.000.
