OPENING MATCH AT AUCKLAND. COMBINED COLLEGES POOR START. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The opening match of the New Zealand tour of Sir Julien Cahn’s eleven against the Auckland combined colleges team began this morning in bright but windy weather on a fast wicket. The visitors opened with two fast bowlers, Phillipson and Watts, .and the batsmen.were not comfortable with them. Phillipson soon got two wickets—bowling Andrews, and a couple of overs later getting Burgress caught by the wicketkeeper. Maxwell’s total was then 27. Irvine had reached double figures when he was joined by Lund; but his end came when the visitors replaced Watts by Walsh.
