LABOUR CAUCUS

DEFENCE POLICY DISCUSSED. EXPRESSION OF CONFIDENCE IN MINISTERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. A vote of confidence in the Prims Minister, the Rt Hon M. J. Savage, and* in Cabinet was carried on Saturday by the caucus of members of the Parliamentary Labour Party just before the conclusion of a meeting extending over two and a half days. Saturday morning was occupied by caucus in a discussion on the question of defence. In a subsequent interview Mr Savage said that there had been a full discussion on defence—what has been done and what it was proposed to do in all branches of the services. The Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, was complimented on the work he had done and his'speech was frequently applauded. In its discussions since it first met on Thursday caucus had covered the main questions that had been the subject lately of public controversy—exchange control, housing, industrial expansion and defence. It was hoped within the next few days to give the public more details of the plan of industrial expansion.
