PONCAROA SHEEP FAIR. KEEN COMPETITION,’ Messrs Dalgcty and Co Ltd report on their annual sheep fair at the Pongaroa Saleyards on Saturday, as follows: —The advertised numbers came forward, and our entry, which totalled 7200 sheep, was comprised mainly of annual drafts of 4 and 5-year ewes from the well-known Pongaroa settlers. The quality of the yarding was right up to the usual standard of sheep yarded at this fixture. Despite the fact that the Pahiatua Show and Dannevirke sale were held on the same day as our fair, there was a large attendance of local farmers and from outside districts. From the outset the bidding was brisk, and all the main lines commanded keen competition, the prices realised in nearly all cases being right up to vendors' expectations. Prices generally were on a par with those ruling at the recent' Pahiatua fair. The following are opr main sales—3oo 4-year ewes, a/c Mrs F. Burling, “Glencoe,” 2ss 4d; 362 5-year ewes, a/c. S. C. Humphries, “Wairakau,” 20s 8d; 145 ssyear ewes, a/c Dickens estate, 20s Id; 192 5-year ewes, a/c. H. J. Tinworth, 20s; 165 5-year ewes, a/c. Franklin Bros 21s Id; 60 4-ycar ewes, a/c. C. A. Meech, 23s 8d; 179 5-year ewes, a/c. S. F. Herbert, 17s 6d; 195 6-year ewes,a/c Poole Est, 13s sd; 283 6-year ewes, a/c Mrs O. Wardle, 13s Id; 290 5-year ewes, a/c ‘•Springlands” Limited, 20s 2d; 201 5 and 6-year ewes, a/c. Fraser Bros, 15s Id; m.a. ewes, a/c Dickens Estate, 17s lOd; 4-year ewes, a/c T. G. Herbert, 21s Id; m.a. ewes, a/c. L. Ballantyne, 21s Id. A line of maiden 4-th ewes also on account of Mr L. Ballantyne, made 245, and small 2-th ewes, 22s lOd. Small, 2-th, a/c T. Stone, 20s 7d; ditto, a/c H. Cruickshanks, 225; ditto, a/c T. G. Herbert, 235; m.a. ewes, a/c. Franklin Bros, 20s 7,d; ditto, a/c H. P. Herbert, 19s Gd; 2-th ewes, a/c. H. P. Herbert, 245; ditto, a/c H. J. Tinworth, 20s 3d; ditto, a/c.;Mrs Burling, 22s 6d. We penned some good lines of wethers, and these made up to 17s 3d, while forward-con-ditioned' b.f.-2-ths made up to 18s Id, b.f. larnbs, 12s 6d to 14s 4d, small lambs. 10:-. Gd to 12s Gd. woolly wether lambs, 11s to 12s Gd, and a pen of good woolly owe lambs, made 20s. Others, 14s to 15s 9d. We are able to report practically a total clearance.
