An awkward situation was only just avoided by the quick action of a Christchurch tramway conductor when a ticket that he handed to a passenger almost blew away. The passenger was standing in the draughty end compartment of a crowded trailer, and when given his ticket he saw it flutter from his hand and go out the side. The conductor and the passenger simultaneously realised that either the

passenger must buy another or the conductor would have something to explain if an inspector should board the tram. But just in time the conductor realised that the ticket might have been caught on the rear end of the step, towards which it had fallen. Clambering out the side, he found it there, gave it to the passenger, and swung forward from the trailer to the tram.
