Several years ago. the late Mr D. Dustin and a number of other Wanganui business men organised a camp on the edge of the sand-hills at Kai-, toke for unemployed youths. The camp served its purpose thoroughly and several thousand young trees were planted by the boys, and a nursery where young trees were reared for seed was established. When the need for the camp was over, the lesson taught was not forgotten, and now a proposal is afoot to continue the afforestation work started by the boys. There are 1000 acres of sand-hills along the coast which are a menace to the farm lands adjoining. Mr J. B. Cotterill. M.P., reports that a survey is soon to be undertaken, and if approved. this important development work will be started.
