ON EVE OF ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
Coronation and Concordat with Italy ASSEMBLAGE OF CARDINALS AND BISHOPS By Telegraph—Press Association. —Copyright. ROME, February 10. Pope Pius XI died at 4.31 a.m, (G.M.T.) today. He had a relapse when 200 cardinals and bishops were assembling for the weekend ceremonies in celebration of the seventeenth anniversary of the Pope’s coronation and the tenth anniversary of the concordat with Italy. The Pope’s entourage said that His Holiness’s will to live till he had addressed the Bishops tomorrow was so great that it was thought possible that he might hold out, but later the Sacrament of Extreme Unction which is reserved to those who are at the point of death, was administered.
