General situation: A trough of relatively low pressure extends from the Tasman Sea across the northern part of the South Island; both to the northeast and over south-eastern Australia pressure is high. Forecast: Moderate to strong north-west winds, backing soon to southerly; weather fair to fine at first in eastern districts, but otherwise mainly cloudy to overcast and some showers or drizzling rain probable; temperatures cooler.
