STATE THEATRE

“MY LUCKY STAR.” At last the miraculous Sonja Henie appears in a picture as American as an ice cream cone! A dazzling modern girl, having a modern good time on a co-ed campus, wearing swank clothes, keeping swell dates —that’s Sonja as you’ll see her in “My Lucky Star,” her new hit for 20th Century-Fox, which will be shown tonight at the State Theatre. This is a picture that winks and glitters with fun and romance. It has songs and laughter that seem to sail through the air like ski jumpers and Sonja’s magnificent “Alice In Wonderland” ice ballet is a thing to make you cry out in wonder and delight. Sharing star honours with Sonja and giving an excellent account of himself is Richard Greene, while Joan Davis (a great -favourite with picturegoers), Cesar Romero and Buddy Ebsen are featured in widely divergent comedy roles which will delight their fun-lov-ing fans. Gordon and Revel’s delightful melodies lend fresh enchantment to the breath-taking ice ballets in which Sonja surpasses even her sensational performances in “Thin Ice” and “Happy Landing.” The splendid supporting cast includes Arthur Treacher, George Barbier, Louise Hovick, Billy Gilbert, Patricia Wilder and Paul Hurst. Contrasting with the brilliant costumes of the skaters is the formal wear of several hundred extras who appear as fashionable spectators. Even during re-; hearsals, the extras loudly applauded each scene, as did the scores of stars' and studio workers who took time off from other pictures to come and watch the ballet.
