Miss A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today:— Barograph, 30.37. Shade temperature: Maximum 80.7, minimum 51.1, terrestrial 42.7. Sunshine, 13 hours 27 min. General situation: An anti-cyclone still covers northern New Zealand and the north Tasman Sea while a shallow depression is approaching across the south Tasman. Forecast: Light to moderate west to north-west winds, gradually freshening; weather fair at first but some scattered light rain developing during tomorrow and west of the ranges; temperatures rising. MASTERTON WEATHER. SUMMARY FOR JANUARY. Miss A. M. Brown, Masterton weather recorder, supplies the following summary for January (figures for January last year given in parentheses):— Pressure at 9 a.m. standard time, highest 30.61 inches on January 13 (30.58); lowest, 29.1 on January 15 (29.56).
Temperatures: Absolute shade maximum, 79.1 degrees on January 12 (94.5) absolute shade minimum, 35.5 degrees on January 11 (42.5). Thus the range was 43.6 (52.0). Mean temperature for the month, 59.8 (66.5). Absolute grass minimum, 27.1 on January 11 (33.7); average grass minimum, 38.3 (46.6) average at one foot underground, 64.1 (68.9). Severest frost, 3.3 on night of January 11 (no frost). Days of frost (grass minimum 30.4 degrees Fahr, or lower). 4 (0); of shade temperature below 32 degrees F., 0 <0); of gale. 8 (3). Total rainfall, 0.46 inches on 8 days (4.38); greatest fall, 14 points on January 15 and 17 (238).
