LONDON’S SHIPPING

During the week ended January G, 900 vessels, representing 969,217 net register tons, used the Port of London. Of these, 417 vessels (754,300 net register tons) were to and from Empire and foreign ports and 483 vessels (214,917 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included five meat cargoes. viz, three from Australia, one from New Zealand and one from South America, comprising 267,000 carcases of lamb and mutton, 40,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits and sundries. Fifteen timber laden vessels docked in the Surrey Commercial and India and Millwall Docks with 24,000 tons of softwood.

During the year ended December 31. 1938, 641 vessels, totalling 6,049,044 gross register, tons, used the Tilbury Landing Stage embarking or disembarking 122,706 passengers.
