The city editor of “The Times,” commenting upon the New Zealand Reserve Bank's statistical summary, showing a deterioration of the bank’s position since 1936. especially in 1938, says it shows all the signs of an accumulative strain upon the credit capacity of the Dominion. He adds: “Exchange control alone will not solve the fundamental economic equilibrium, although it may provide a breathing space for remedial measures.”
